Follow Me to Fit!

I never thought I'd choose to teach at just one gym.  I've always liked the diversity of instructing at multiple athletic clubs--it gave me a change of scenery, I was able to mix up my personal workouts and, being the social butterfly that I am, I enjoyed interacting with a variety of people.  On top of that, I built great relationships with a slew of devoted members who I felt a responsibility towards, and who I never wanted to let down by leaving.  But after years of teaching, I had to make a choice that was best for me, which is why today I find myself devoting my group exercise instruction solely to Fit Athletic Club, and for good reason.

To me, Fit is the total package in a health club as it takes great care of its facility, equipment, members and employees.  If you've ever worked in the fitness industry, you'll agree that a gym like this is hard to find.  Working for Fit, I feel appreciated and rewarded for my teaching abilities by both the club and its members.  This appreciation is incredibly motivating, making me want to give 110% to those who attend my classes.  It also encourages me to devote more of my time to the club.

Beyond that, my job as an instructor is made easier having a clean and cared-for environment.  While no spin bike is perfect, I give Fit credit for making a strong effort to keep its equipment maintained--unlike other gyms whose 15 of 30 bikes have snapped pedal straps, broken clips, wobbly saddles, shaky handle bars, terrible resistance control, crazy clicking noises....you get the picture.  For Fit, maintenance extends beyond the spin room.  Equipment repairs always seem to made in a timely fashion.  And the gym is tidy, which is wonderful for an OCD person like myself.  Both the members and employees make an effort to rack weights according to size so you're not wandering all over creation to find what you need.  And equipment seems to make its way back to its home when not in use.  Most importantly for me, Fit helps keep the spin room comfortable by allowing us instructors to control the thermostat, hanging two high-powered fans from the walls and providing a dehumidifier that actually works.  My days of suffocating in a hot, humid, germ-factory are behind me!

Speaking of OCD, I l-o-v-e, love the fact that when I'm finished teaching, the clean-up crew comes in right behind me to mop up the pools of sweat.  Let me tell you, I never once saw a mop in the other spin rooms I taught, which is why they smelled so gosh darn awful.  And disinfectant wipes (that are NOT dried out) hang at the door of the spin room, which are a necessity before and after an intense class.  Looking outside the room, you constantly see the cleaning crew at work, too.  [Note to other gyms: It's of no benefit to members for spin bikes to be wiped down once a day when there are multiple classes on the schedule.  So don't give a class of 30 people ONE spray bottle, which is empty most of the time, to disinfect all 30 bikes!]

Of course, Fit offers other perks, such as a cafe, free internet access, towel service, and the list goes on....While it's true that the club's membership fees are slightly higher than your run-of-the-mill gym, in this instance you get what you pay for. So if you're interested in checking Fit out for yourself, contact the club's General Manager Pete Ekstrom, pete@fitathletic.com, and let him know Ashley sent you.  He'll be happy to offer you a trial pass so that you can see firsthand why I'm so happy here!  While you're there, come check out my spin class on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evening!
